The full quote from Eugene Petersen’s The Message is: “You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world.” (Matthew 5:14)
In context, in the New King James Version of the Bible this quote reads: “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” These beautiful words are true for us all.
This quote – the Message version – features in my explanation of “Prayer that transforms us”, a Christian Science lecture I will be giving in Reading today (2:30pm) and in Kingston upon Thames tomorrow, Sunday (3pm).
