This quote was a helpful, healing thought shared with me when I was very new to my study of Christian Science. I have no recollection of what I was desiring at the time, but it has struck me as good advice ever since. I’ve consistently found that what God’s law brings to light tends to be much better than whatever I’d imagined I wanted in the first place!
As Jesus so eloquently put it: “This is your Father you are dealing with, and he knows better than you what you need. With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply.” (The Message, Bible paraphrase)
And from Christian Science Founder, Mary Baker Eddy: “Desire is prayer; and no loss can occur from trusting God with our desires, that they may be moulded and exalted before they take form in words and in deeds.” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures)
Waiting for our desires to be divinely righted before being fulfilled might take a little patience, but it can be well worth the wait!
Thank you. Tony’s honest admittance that it can take “a little patience,” certainly rings a big bell with me. Oh, how I have had to learn to be patient, so often wanting something now! One dictionary definition tells me that it is “quiet and self-possessed waiting for something.” (Oxford D’nary). Here, the Bible helps so much. It shows us that those who were around very long ago met the same challenges – Be still, and know that I am God (Psalm 46:10).

That’s one of my favourite Bible passages, Kate. Short but sweet, and very powerful. In that stillness the Christ is revealing the right ideas we require in order to see the way forward – God’s way forward. And His way is always “forward to better”. Thanks for posting your thoughts! 🙂

Controlling through drugs is a far cry from God’s directing. I have had relatives that did the drug in the drink trying to control and manipulate, their way. Other groups have beliefs like this that I have encountered.
Nothing satisfies like a healing from God and God’s directing.
You put this into focus in the right way, Thanks!
