On Friday October 23 the Oprah Winfrey Network’s weeklong focus on our beliefs zeroed in on the question of religious and spiritual practice.
Here’s my picture and word response, as published on Ideapod.
Are We Practicing Healing Love?
It can be sobering to consider the great catcher’s words in relation to faith. What if we ask: “How does my practice compare to the standard set in my sacred texts?”
Do I hear a shuffling of feet?
Certainly, my feet are shuffling. As a Christian Scientist, the core of the theology I unabashedly love is that a loving God must be a healing God and that by understanding the purely spiritual nature of our real identity we can become healers.
So in theory there should be no difference between the ideal and its implementation. In practice that’s not always so. The human mind can resist the influx of spiritual light. I’ve seen so much healing, of myself and others, yet always see room for improvement.
Can theory and practice ever come together in perfect alignment?
Yes! That’s what we see in Gospel accounts of Jesus’ remarkable healing.
And isn’t that the point of a sacred text? To hold the high goal of healing love before our thoughts and to inspire us…to practice it!
