Who Wouldn’t Want To Flee The Flu?

February celebrated “wise health care consumers” at the same time as newspapers and airwaves conveyed and questioned the need for “flu jabs”.  Are there other wise choices that could protect us from the flu? In 5 Other Ways to Flee the Flu – posted on BuzzFeed – I share some thoughts on how thinking generally, and prayer specifically, can make a difference.

3. Love. Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University found that people who are “happy, enthusiastic, and calm” seem to be less prone to colds. Contrastingly, fear and anticipation of sickness can itself weaken the body’s overall immunity, according to Christiane Northrup, MD, author of Women’s Bodies, Women’s Wisdom. How can we bridge the gap between fear and calm? One way is through spiritual love, or as a Bible author puts it: “There is no room in love for fear. Well-formed love banishes fear”..

4. “Just Say No!” WebMD reports on Melissa Galt who takes a “mind over medicine” approach to the flu. She says: “I don’t have time for sickness in my life, I don’t believe in it and don’t acknowledge it.” The well-travelled interior designer “doesn’t take anything to fight germs”. Reviewing her success, an expert attributes it to physiological changes brought about by “a positive attitude”. Yet positive thinking isn’t always successful. The attitude depicted here seems more feisty – a mental stance of refuting the necessity for sickness…
